Client Overview
Bright Light Agribusiness operates one of the largest single-managed almond farms in the Southern Hemisphere, covering 11,000 acres at Hattah in northwest Victoria, with 7,000 acres planted to almonds. The land was growing wheat less than a decade ago. First plantings went in during 2016, with further plantings in 2019.
Global demand for Australian almonds was growing. The business needed a complete processing complex on a greenfield site, covering every stage from receival through to export packing, with no gaps in the sequence.
03
Key Outcomes
Bright Light now runs a fully sequenced, 31,000m² processing complex across 8 buildings at Hattah. Almonds arrive by truck, are moisture tested at the weighbridge, and move through pre-cleaning, drying, hulling, shelling, and sizing before reaching a robotic packing line. Fifteen high-precision sorters grade product by colour, size, and variety throughout. Finished 50-pound boxes are palletised, shrink-wrapped, and shipped from Melbourne to export markets, predominantly China and India.
The operation captures full value from every part of the crop. Hulls are sold to cattle farmers as a dietary source of fibre and protein. Ground hulls are spread as mulch for vineyards and orchards. Rainwater from the processing buildings is filtered and reused on site. A team of 50 to 60 employees runs the facility.
