How the Ridgeback® Works
Conventional barn roofs create dead zones of stagnant air, respiratory irritants and thermal stress at cattle level. The Ridgeback® is engineered to eliminate them.
Applying Bernoulli’s principle, the curved roof profile accelerates airflow over the structure, generating a sustained low pressure zone above the ridge. High pressure on the windward side drives fresh air in through the open pen sides, travelling across the cattle and carrying heat, moisture and airborne contaminants out through the ridge.
At wind speeds as low as 0.2 metres per second, the system delivers 13.4 air changes per hour, validated through independent trials and aerospace engineering simulations.
THE RIDGEBACK®
Performance Outcomes
01
Welfare & Comfort
20% greater airflow across the pen reduces heat unit accumulation, BRD incidence and mortality. Cattle remain calmer and cleaner, achieving higher grading outcomes and hot standard carcase weights that reflect the comfort of their finishing environment.
02
Time & Cost to Weight
Stable conditions across the full feeding cycle drive consistent intake and measurably improve feed conversion, returning over 0.2 kg more average daily gain and 0.45 kg more dry matter intake per head per day in beef cattle.
03
Water Capture & Consumption
Cattle housed under the Ridgeback® consume on average 5.2 litres less water per head daily. Rain exclusion reduces pen surface moisture and supports effluent capture, lowering cost and compliance exposure in water-constrained regions.
04
Operational Efficiency
Dry bedding reduces dag loading, pen cleaning frequency and manual handling requirements across the site. Ammonia and effluent run-off are reduced at the source, composted manure recovered as a saleable by-product and automation integrated to improve site-wide efficiency.
