The World’s Most Expensive Shed?

The Walig Hut

Located on a mountain about a 30-minute drive from the Gstaad in the Swiss Alps, the Walig Hut is considered the most expensive shed in the world. The shed was originally built by a farmer back in 1786 and was used to house cows during the summer pasture. Today the wooden shed has been carefully restored and is a part of the luxurious Gstaad Palace. In order to maintain its old fashioned and cosy charm, the shed hasn’t had too many modern modifications. As the shed acts more as a cabin or a hut, it has some built-in modern features such as solar panel electricity, running (cold!) water, and a fireplace. Located about 5000ft above sea level, it is the breathtaking view of the Swiss Alps that makes this shed so special. While on the porch, you can enjoy some hot chocolate while taking in the view of Gstaad and Saanenland.

 

 

The Price Tag

However, make sure to not choke on that chocolate when checking the price tag. While the shed is not currently up for sale, the shed is expected to be worth in excess of a few million dollars. For those interested, for 1600CFH ($2120AUD) two people can enjoy one night and a three-course meal at the Walig Hut. For a cheaper option, drop the overnight stay and simply get the three-course meal for a minimum of 250CFH (approx. $330AUD) per person.

The Walig Hut might not be what one expects from the world’s most expensive shed. It is not big nor extravagant, and the high price is obviously associated with its location. However, the Walig Hut proves how adaptable and flexible sheds can be. From starting out to house cows, it now houses nature-loving visitors from all over the world.
