Building to blend in to the landscape

Peter King knew he wanted a new shed.

And it had to be large.

Afterall, the mixed farmer and mechanic from Lah in Victoria’s Wimmera was accumulating more and larger machinery.

It needed to be protected.

But he wanted the large construction to be subtle.

“Blend in” with the scenery.

That’s why he chose to make it out of COLORBOND® Steel.

“Being green, it doesn’t stand out like a lot of sheds,” Peter explained.

“Because of its size, it could have really stood out but instead, it blends in with the scenery.”

Peter also chose the unique COLORBOND colour Pale Eucalypt® to reflect heat, something he was especially conscious of given the shed would be used to store either hay for domestic customers or machinery.

It was the first time Peter and his wife Jill have constructed an Entegra shed.

They wanted a quality finish for their shed and knew Entegra would deliver.

“Entegra were able to work with us on different designs and options,” Peter said.

“We had a veranda put onto the front, it makes the shed bigger and more weatherproof without putting a wall in. It gives us an area to park under the front.

“We also filled in one side of the shed at the gable end, it protects the shed from weathering on that side – the southwest – where the weather predominantly comes from.”

Up to 170,000 litres of water storage – also COLORBOND and the same colour- is attached to the shed.

There’s not one drop of water lost from the roof of the 36metre by 24 metre shed, it’s all siphoned into the tanks by Entegra’s Taperflow™ gutter system.

Taperflow gutters are larger than a typical box gutter system and designed specifically to handle heavy downpours before draining easily into storage.

Peter and Jill will use the stored water for chemical spraying and stock water.

As domestic hay producers, the Kings know their customers prefer hay that’s been protected from the elements.

Hay’s stored in the shed when there’s no machinery under the shelter.

This new Entegra shed has given Peter and Jill even more space to store fodder.

“Customers always ask if the hay has been shedded, it’s the first thing they ask,” Peter said.

“Thanks to the shed, we can lock in a better price, and we have the option to store it and customers will pay a storage fee.

“It’s given us more options for when we sell. Hay in the shed is money in the bank.”

As a mechanic, operating Kingsmere Motors, Peter also understands the value in protecting machinery to optimise functionality and improve its resale value.

“Machinery costs a lot these days,” he said.

“If you store it undercover it lasts longer.”
